New Round of Boater Certificate hopefuls wanted!!
Too cold to go out fishing? There is something you can do that will bring you one step closer to an awesome pro boater! We are looking for another round of hopefuls who want to obtain the BOATER CERTIFICATE together.
IT’S VERY EASY -
Step 1: Take the online course and complete all sections (they say the total hours requires is around 8 hours to 10 hours at most to complete the whole thing)
Step 2: If you reside in NJ, you have to go and take a paper exam before you can obtain the official (government issued) Boater Certificate. If you are in NY, you do not need this step (lucky you 👍)
Ocean Tribe will coordinate a studying schedule for all who sign up (but of course, this can be done just by yourself, as it is an online course) so that we can encourage each other to finish this in the period of 6 weeks! That is just 2 hours (at most) per week of commitment to complete the online course.
WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH A BOATER CERTIFICATE?
Come learn about boats and boat driving/maneuvering at your local SR1 Ocean Tribe (Little Ferry NJ) - captains will teach you all about boat maintenance and boat driving/parking/launching/retrieving
You can become a deckhand or CIT (captain in training). Imagine becoming a real CAPTAIN. That is one more amazing thing you can add to any resume ⚓⚓⚓
Help volunteer at Ocean Tribe regularly. Ocean Tribe meets once a week for boat maintenance. We also hold events such as Fishing Tournaments, Ocean Festivals, Youth Programs, etc. You can be an essential staff for any of these events once you learn to drive/take care of the boats!
Learn essential boating/fishing skills
Many chances to go on the boats, fishing trips, harbor cruises, etc!

NOTE If you want to just do this at your own time and not be part of a group that is going through the course together, you are welcome to just do it on your own. Just let us know when you received your certificate, so we can make sure to include you into our future boating/fishing programs!
Everyone who signed up will be sent a link to sign up for the official online BOAT-ED course online.
Ocean Tribe will send weekly reminders (twice a week) to all participants to complete a section of the online course.
Each participant will be invited to become part of a google chat group where they can ask questions, encourage each other, engage, or update their progress.
At the end of the 6-week period, Ocean Tribe will coordinate the paper exam dates and locations with each participant (only for NJ residents). Going to take the exam together is actually fun ^^
Once you pass the exam (NY residents just need to complete the online course), they will send you the official BOATER CERTIFICATE in the mail, and you’re officially certified to drive motor boats and jet skis!! (some restrictions on size, of course).
